Walls Treatments That Wow

If your walls could talk, what would they say?  I hope they wouldn’t be screaming at you for some attention!  Aside from the thousands of stunning paint colors available today, there several other wall treatment options that can add depth and interest to your favorite space.  If you’re looking to inject a bit of personality into those bland walls, you might consider a few of these alternatives.

Wallpaper

Ok, so maybe this isn’t the most unexpected option, but today’s selection in wallpapers aren’t the flashback florals you remember from Grandma’s house.  The hottest patterns are bold and graphic, but still manage to elicit a simple, elegant feel.  Designer wallpapers embellished with a metallic sheen reflect a luxe shimmer that livens up any space.

If you’re still gun shy about committing to wallpaper, consider using it as an accent on just one wall.  Bordered by decorative molding, it creates the look of a custom artwork installation at a fraction of the cost.

Natural Materials

With so much focus on environmentally friendly products, the greenest choices for wall coverings involve re-purposing old materials or harvesting elements that replenish quickly in nature.  Reclaimed wood complements a rustic decor or adds that much needed warmth to a sleek, modern space.

Traditionally used in flooring, cork is a rapidly renewable resource that’s emerging as a unique wall treatment option. In addition to its natural beauty, cork is extremely durable and very easy to clean.

And perhaps the greenest of all options are the living wall systems where plants grow on custom designed screen structures.

Temporary Treatments

If you’re looking for a big visual impact that’s easily changeable, consider creating an art gallery wall.  Mix a few pieces you already own with some unique finds from a flea market, yard sale, or local auction.  The more eclectic the mix, the more “time-collected” the look.

An art collection placed on two adjacent walls envelops the space creating the feel of a comfortable, cozy nook.

Wall decals are also a popular option that add instant pattern and a punch of color without the commitment of a permanent treatment. Easily removable with a little heat from your blow-dryer, these graphics are a simple way to add an eye-catching, artistic focal point to any space.
